Arsenal close to agreeing new long term contract with their player

Gunners have held positive contract talks with him

Aaron Ramsey joined Arsenal from Cardiff for a reported fee of £4.8 million in 2008. He has been a mainstay in the midfield since joining them, scoring 58 goals in 327 appearances in all competitions.

The 27 year old was a regular last season for the Gunners, scoring 12 goals and assisting 9 in 36 appearances in all competitions. But the club finished sixth in the Premier League and will miss the Champions League in the upcoming season.

The Welsh midfielder is about to enter the final year of his contract and yet to commit himself to a long term agreement. Talks have been going on with his representative for a 4 or 5 year contract over the past few months that have yet to result in agreement.

His future at the club following Arsene Wenger’s departure has been widely speculated on and has been linked with a summer move. He has been linked with a move to Chelsea, Juventus and Manchester United this summer.

Arsenal have reportedly held positive talks with Ramsey over a new long-term contract according to The Telegraph.

While the Gunners have been busy in the transfer market, tying him down to a new deal has also been a major objective. New manager Unai Emery is a huge admirer of him and identified as one of the senior central midfielders, who he wants to build the team around.

The Wales International even claimed earlier that he can’t wait to work under the Spaniard. Asked if he was looking forward to working with him, he said:

“Of course. I haven’t spoken to him at all yet, but I think it’s an exciting time for the club.

“I can’t wait to get back there now.”

Former PSG boss is close to finalizing his midfield for the upcoming season. Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka have already signed new long term contract extensions, with Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira on the verge of joining them.
