Arsenal could miss out on two transfer targets

The Gunners have already completed five summer signings

Unai Emery is appointed as the new Arsenal manager after Arsene Wenger decided to leave the club after 22 years. He has been charged with the task of returning the club to the European elite while challenging for major honours.

The Spaniard has already completed 5 summer signings, reinforcing the weak areas which needed strengthening ahead of the upcoming season.

Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria, Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient, Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkuse, Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund and Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus.

Former PSG boss has almost finalized his midfield for the upcoming season. Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka have already signed new long term contract extensions and has also urged the club to offer a contract extension to Aaron Ramsey.

But Arsenal could miss out on transfer targets Aleksandr Golovin and Max Meyer as reported by Sky Sports.

Meyer has been a long term target for the Premier League giants and has been linked with a move for him this summer. He is a free agent right now after running down his contract with Schalke and leaving them last month.

The 22 year old progressed through the ranks of the German side and made his senior debut for them in 2013. He is considered as one of Germany’s top rising talent.

But the club have been put off signing the German midfielder because his wage demands are too high.

Golovin has been one of the revelations of the 2018 World Cup, picking up a goal and two assists in the tournament. He helped Russia to reach the quarter-finals as they defeated Spain but were defeated by Croatia in penalty shootouts.

Chelsea are also interested in signing the Russia International in addition to the Gunners but the midfielder reportedly wants to join Juventus.

Though Emery claimed his summer recruitment is done unless a “big opportunity” arises.

“We signed the players who we need, only if one player is a big opportunity for us to sign we can do it,” he said. “Normally we are thinking about the young player, the possibility to stay with us or go on loan to another team.

“In this moment I think the squad is complete, only the possibility for one player or two players to leave. To sign [a player] in the next month? Only if he is a big opportunity.”
