Official AleAlex Iwobi Wants To Win The Europa Leaguex Iwobi signs new long term contract with Arsenal

The Nigeria International has extended his contract until 2022

Alex Iwobi has signed a new long term contract with Arsenal, keeping him at the club until 2022. He follows Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka, who all have signed new contract extensions this summer.

The Nigeria International has been with the Gunners since he was 9 years old and made his senior debut in the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in League Cup in 2015. He want on to make 24 appearances in all competition that season.

The midfielder continued his development under former manager Arsene Wenger and became an integral part of the squad. He featured prominently last season, scoring 3 goals across 40 appearances in all competitions.

He signed a new 5 year deal back in October 2016 but talks over a new deal began last December as the Premier League giants were impressed with his performances and wanted to keep hold of him for a long time.

They wanted the deal done before the World Cup as he was in the Nigeria World Cup squad but the talks got delayed as Arsene Wenger stepped down as the manager and club got busy finding his replacement.

Unai Emery was appointed as the new manager and he himself confirmed few days ago that they are very close to agreeing a new deal for the Nigerian.

“It’s always been my childhood dream to represent Arsenal, from young,” Iwobi told Arsenal media during his signing presentation as quoted by Goal.

“To get an extended contract is an amazing feeling and I hope I’m doing the Arsenal family proud as well as my family.

“It feels so special. The first kit I had was Arsenal and long may I continue to represent them.”

“I’m very pleased Alex has signed a new contract with us,” the manager said.

“He is a great example of a player who can succeed from the Academy through hard work and I look forward to working with him and our other talented young players in the squad.”
