Unai Emery Adresses Arsenal Players Who Shrugged Off Fans In Wolves Defeat

Unai Emery acknowledged the ‘amazing’ supporters after the 3-1 Wolves defeat when some of the Arsenal players were noticed walking straight towards the exit tunnel without paying respect to the travelling fans.

It was a disheartening loss for the club who remained in the fifth spot of the Premier League with their second consecutive league defeat of the season.

When asked about the players ignoring the club’s supporters after the loss, Emery said “Our supporters were amazing, they were with us and they helped us. Also, they are going to be disappointed today. We need to say to them that they are here with us and we appreciate that a lot.

“After that, we are going to do all we can against Leicester on Sunday to take three points. We need to be together, the club, the players and the supporters.

“We started at the beginning after [losing] the first two matches in the Premier League, little by little we’ve come back and we are taking chances to be in the top four which is our difficult target. We are now with possibilities, not in our hands, but it’s a possibility.

“All these players have worked for this opportunity. Now, we lost today, we lost Sunday and we are very disappointed with that, but we need to continue.

“Also we have two competitions – the Premier League and Europa League – two ways to go to the Champions League, our objective.

“We need to continue being strong in our mentality, strong with our confidence, strong in our capacity. We are going to analyse how we can be competitive, how we can be better as a team in the [next] matches.”

First a defeat to Crystal Palace at home, then a humiliating loss to Wolves away and suddenly Arsenal’s top four hopes are in danger.

However, with Chelsea yet to play Manchester United, the Gunners still have some hope according to their boss Unai Emery who is confident of getting a top four spot.

“We are disappointed but we need to remember how we were three months ago,” he told BBC Sport. “We can be optimistic and recover for the top four.

“We knew before the match that it was going to be difficult because all season Wolves are feeling strong. Defensively they are a good team and offensively they have very fast players. Their organisation was very good and to break this was going to be difficult.

“In the first 25 minutes we started very well, controlled the possession but did not have many chances to score.

“We spoke in the dressing room at half-time and we tried to see it as a new match and in the second half we changed our performance and scored a goal.”

“We can be frustrated but the Premier League is about being consistent over 38 matches.”

Bernd Leno has often been the saviour for Arsenal this season but the 3-1 defeat against Wolves was not his best outing.

The German made some errors in judgement which played a heavy part in the Wanderers’ second and third goals.

Ruben Neves opened the scoring with a wonderful freekick from right outside the box and Matt Doherty collected a second off a contested header.

A simple pass from Jou Moutinho off of a left corner to Jonny Castro and the Spaniard wasted no time to curl a ball into the Gunners box. Instead of holding a solid defence line, the Arsenal players played Doherty onside, who ran in to flick in a delicate header. By the time Leno had decided to come out and clear the ball, it was far too late.

Diogo Jota also made the shot-stopper pay when he dribbled past Laurent Koscielny to drill in a ball with his left. The shot went through Leno’s hands which most felt could have been better dealt with.

“I don’t want to speak about individuals. We need to continue together and not look at one player, defensive or attacking,” Emery told a news conference.

“We need to think to recover our confidence, our good moment. When we were in the worse moments we can recover to take possibilities like we have now.

“In the last two matches we lost good options but the last three matches we are going to play we will play our possibilities.”

Wolves had destroyed and taken apart Arsenal by the end of the first half and it would be foolish to blame Leno for the Gunners’ defeat. The team collectively was simply not their best, with no purpose in their attacks and simply clueless in defence.

Arsenal Leading Race For 24-Year-Old Star Midfielder

Arsenal Leading Race For 24-Year-Old Star Midfielder

Arsenal are currently leading the chase for Sporting Lisbon midfielder, Bruno Fernandes along with rivals, Chelsea.

Manchester United were thought to be at the top of proceedings to sign the Portuguese international this summer but the Gunners have stepped up on their pursuit.

Unai Emery desperately needs to find a replacement for Aaron Ramsey and Fernandes could be the ideal fit into his system. The 24-year-old has been in remarkable form this season, scoring 28 goals and laying out 15 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

Fernandes also has 11 senior caps for the Portugal national side and was seen in action during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He is a versatile central midfielder who can play from both deep and attacking roles.

Sporting do have the bargaining rights since Fernandes’ release clause is reported to be worth around €100m. The Portuguese outfit might have to sell him for a much lower fee but cannot accept bids any lower than €35m.

With Arsenal’s rumoured transfer budget for the summer, the midfielder might just be far too expensive. Onefootball previously had noticed Gunners scouts being sent to watch Fernandes under the command of Sven Mislintat.

Now that the German talent hunter has left the North London outfit, it is unclear on how far Arsenal are willing to take negotiations for the 24-year-old.

As per the latest reports, Arsenal have agreed to pay £6.5m for Brazilian winger, Gabriel Martinelli.

The 17-year-old currently plays for Ituano and was previously associated with Corinthians. UOL claims that the teenager will finalise his move to the Emirates when he turns 18 in June.

Martinelli is close to acquiring an Italian passport for himself which would rule out the need to obtain a British work permit. He was of considerable interest from a number of top European sides like Barcelona but the Gunners ended up sweeping him up.

The player’s agent had shopped Martinelli around to a lot of Premier League outfits as well. The winger’s stock skyrocketed when he grabbed 6 goals and 3 assists in the Campeonato Paulista this season.

Unai Emery have sent scouts earlier to watch the youngster in action back in February. The club is in dire need of wingers and signing proven professionals is turning out to be far too expensive.

The Gunners might have to start relying on developing their own talent rather. Reiss Nelson is already displaying a lot of promise while on his loan spell out with Hoffenheim and so is Bukayo Saka back in the Arsenal Academy.

Emile Smith-Rowe was terrific in the first half of this season and has already agreed to stay with RB Leipzig for a second season.

Martinelli is not as hyped as a Vinicius Junior or a Neymar in the Brazilian top-flight but he is skilled, fast and intelligent with a lot of potential to succeed in the Premier League.

If Emery can successfully develop the youngster just like he has with Matteo Guendouzi, Arsenal’s front line could be the one to watch out for next season.

Emery tells team to accept criticism

Unai Emery has asked his team to take the fans’ criticism in their stride.

He needs to improve things tactically, decision-making, but he has good quality and needs quality and my work is to help him,” Emery said.

“I am going to say to our supporters, ‘Help our players.’ We need to take the criticism and be strong as players, as a coach, as a team, as a club. We need to improve knowing that.

“Okay, we are receiving criticism after Sunday. It is normal. It is normal. The players know that.

“But we here need to be strong and okay we need improve and need to do this decision we need to take also this tactical approach for tomorrow.”

“We are going to do that. After being together we are strong. We need our supporters, we know sometimes we need to receive criticism and sometimes we also need to receive praise.

“I say my message. I am going to protect the players and help the players. And all the supporters who love Arsenal club I prefer to do that.

“But I know it is not easy and they are going to criticise when they are in the stadium and also when they are watching on TV.

“But we need also to learn to receive criticism. For us we need to protect and know that all the supporters they can do that.

“Personal insults I don’t agree with. Insults I don’t want. I think it is not used to do the insults.”

Unai Emery to sell players in the summer

0

According to reports, Arsenal manager Unai Emery is prepared to sell as many as 7 players in the summer transfer window as he looks to strengthen the club’s squad for next season.

Emery has expressed his desire to spend big in the summer to make Arsenal as big a team as Manchester City and Liverpool.

There were several reports claiming that Arsenal will have only £40 million to spend in the summer transfer window. However, the club can raise funds by selling players in the transfer window.

The 7 players that Emery will reportedly sell are Shkodran Mustafi, Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Mohamed Elneny, Carl Jenkinson, David Ospina and Calum Chambers.

Shkodran Mustafi has been struggling for Arsenal this season and has earned a plethora of criticism throughout the season. The German defender joined Arsenal from Valencia in 2016 on a transfer fee of £35 million but has not been able to live up to his price tag.

Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are two of Arsenal’s highest earners but haven’t done too well this season. Hence, Arsenal might consider selling them to raise funds and have a decrement in their wage bill.

Mohamed Elneny and Carl Jenkinson have been far from regulars for the Gunners this season. Thus, Arsenal will consider bringing in suitable replacements.

David Ospina and Calum Chambers are both on loan to Napoli and Fulham respectively. Both will most likely be sold.

The likes of Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech will leave the club this summer. While Petr Cech will call it a day on his illustrious footballing career, Ramsey will join Juventus.

It will be interesting to see how Arsenal do in the summer transfer window. The club hasn’t done too bad under Emery this season as they have a good chance of finishing the Premier League in the top four and have a chance of winning the Europa League.

Unai Emery recently defended German defender Mustafi.

When asked about Mustafi’s performance, Emery said: “He can play very well. I prefer to speak about the consistency in the season.”

“We are helping every player to play with a big performance. Today also when you can defend against [Christian] Benteke and Zaha you can suffer more.”

“Over the season I think he has been consistent.”

However, what Emery has failed to notice is that Mustafi is single handedly responsible for leaking half the casual goals. The centre back is error prone, cannot read the game, makes silly mistakes and is dumbfounded on the ball.

Frankly speaking, keeping Mustafi in the team might cause the Gunners a lot in their top four race, like the defeat to Crystal Palace.

Speaking about the defeat to Palace, he said, “It’s a big frustration, it was a big opportunity but we can say we had a big opportunity in the matches before today and we took a lot of points in a lot of key moments that give us the opportunity to be now, in our way, with the possibility to achieve our targets.”

“Our first target is to get to the Champions League through the Premier League or Europa League. We lost a big opportunity but it doesn’t change our idea.

“It’s in our hands, we can continue winning and being in the top four.”

Jamie Carragher Picks One Team To Surely Make It Into The Top Four

Jamie Carragher Picks One Team To Surely Make It Into The Top Four

Liverpool legend and TV pundit, Jamie Carragher has guaranteed Tottenham Hotspur a place in the Premier League top-four this season.

Spurs are currently in the third spot level on points with Chelsea but with a game at hand. Arsenal are only a point behind after Sunday’s 2-3 home defeat against Crystal Palace.

The race for the Champions League qualification has been the most competitive this season than it has been for quite some time. Manchester United now find themselves 3 points behind the fourth spot but there is no telling if they will be able to catch up.

Carragher told Sky Sports, “If Chelsea would have got those extra two points there would have been a huge deficit, certainly for Manchester United being five points behind (in that scenario).

“United have a game but it’s Man City at home so it’s not easy. I still think Spurs are there. I look at that now and a lot is riding on Man United vs Chelsea.

“If Man United come out of this week with four points it’s great for them. The vital game is the one against United for Chelsea. I keep changing my mind on who will get in but not on Spurs.”

Now, Arsenal have proven to be a quality home side but their away record is quite different. They squeezed out a 0-1 win over Watford at Vicarage Road but could not get rid of the lowly Eagles last weekend.

The following games against Wolves, Leicester City and Burnley away from the Emirates will be a massive challenge for Unai Emery and his men.

A horrific display against Crystal Palace on Sunday has placed Shkodran Mustafi firmly in Arsenal’s clearout list for the summer.

Unai Emery is expected to trim some of the squad fat by disposing off non-essential personnel. The German defender tops that list due to his shameful displays this season.

Legendary Arsenal defender, Martin Keown analysed the 27-year-old’s performance and concluded, “This is just poor defending. When the ball goes over your head you drop off as quick as you can. He’s not even aware of Benteke.

“If the ball is delivered into the box, it’s a tap in. Mustafi has completely switched off. He sees him and puts the burners on but Benteke just steps inside of him. It’s schoolboy defending.”

“Just drop off and deal with it,” said Keown. “He tries to out-strength Zaha. He calls on the goalkeeper to come but there’s no pace on the ball. Better decision making. It’s costing you and your team. It’s avoidable.”

Now shipping Mustafi out might be a problem for the Gunners since he was signed for a whopping £35m two summers back. Arsenal surely cannot flip the asset for a profit anymore since his value dropped significantly over the past two seasons.
