Arsenal transfer targets summer 2019? Here we look at the latest news about Arsenal transfer targets this summer in 2019. We point out football players who are at the very top of Arsenal’s target list for the summer of 2019. So which footballers are the Arsenal transfer targets this summer?
Arsenal Summer Transfer Targets
Arsenal have had a mix of good and bad in the 2018/19 campaign under their new manager, Unai Emery. There was expected to be a few disappointments since the Spaniard had to take over the Gunners after 22 long years under Arsene Wenger.
Emery did not force his will right upon arrival, giving the player’s a culture shock with his new techniques. Instead, he used the budget provided to him last summer to make five very important signings, almost all of whom have filled out a part of the new Arsenal side.
However, if the results towards the end of the Premier League campaign will tell you anything is that Emery needs more players. The Gunners are quite simply understaffed in various departments, the most obvious being the defence and the wing positions.
Reports have claimed that the former Sevilla boss will only be allotted £40-45m to bring in the necessary pieces this summer. He himself will have to raise additional funds by trimming the squad fat.
Despite Arsenal’s very modest transfer budget, reports have constantly linked high profile names with the North London outfit, throughout the season. Here are some of the players who are thought to be on the club’s most wanted list.
Top 5 Arsenal Transfer Targets 2019
So, what are Arsenal going to do to improve upon their season? What do Arsenal need to do to start competing for the Premier League title again? Yes, they have a decent enough team to challenge for a top-four spot but that might not be enough after rarity of trophies in the past decade.
The Emirates-based outfit should sign better players in positions they clearly need to. The Gunners need to stiff up the backline with an experienced centre-half. They also require able wide men, fast on the ball and creative enough to supply Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
So, with that in mind- who will be the top Arsenal transfer targets this summer? Well, you’re going to find out.
5. Djene Dakonam
One of the most recent additions to this list, Dakonam is a centre-half who plays for Getafe. Reports price him at £30m after a remarkable season in the La Liga.
The 39-time Togo international has been a key cog in Getafe’s bid for a top-four finish in the 2018/19 season. At 27 years old, his release clause might seem like a touch too high but could be worth it if he makes an immediate improvement to the awful Gunners defence.
4. Nicolas Tagliafico
The Ajax left-back has impressed plenty this season with his exploits in the Champions League. He only moved to Europe a short while back but has adjusted quickly to the pace of the game, even earning a spot in the Argentine national side.
The Gunners are expected to lose Nacho Monreal to Barcelona since the La Liga champions are pursuing him as a backup for Jordi Alba.
Sead Kolasinac is defensively still a bit raw to earn a regular first-team spot under Emery. However, Tagliafico might not be much of an improvement to the Serb either.
Sure, the 26-year-old has maintained an impressive tally of 2.4 tackles per game but his prior experience or rather lack of one makes him a huge doubt for the Premier League. Cannot tell for sure if the Arsenal fans will be sold on the 13-cap international.
3. Nicolas Pepe
Another Nicolas who is in Arsenal’s desired list for the summer but he is valued at a ridiculous £70m fee by his parent club, LOSC Lille, as per reports.
Plenty of clubs are fighting for his signature after a breakout season in the Ligue 1, scoring 20 goals and laying off 11 assists in 34 appearances.
Pepe’s dominant foot is his left and the 23-year-old can dribble in and out of tight spots with ease. He mostly plays from the right flank, cutting in when needed but he can appear from the centre-forward spot as well.
Again the possibility of this transfer happening is very low due to the player’s price tag. Yes, Pepe has been in sublime form recently but he still has to establish himself as a top player in Europe to justify such a high asking price.
2. Ryan Fraser
Unai Emery is working out ways to strengthen the side with the resources at hand. That means that marquee signings might not be possible but finding the hidden gems are necessary.
Ryan Fraser has become a target for a lot of Premier League sides because of a few simple reasons. He is a tireless worker and can create plays from the left wing.
Despite being only 5 feet 4 inches tall, the Bournemouth player can cause a lot of trouble on the offensive end with his speed, balance and tenacity. Fraser might be the perfect fit into Arsenal front three.
He is not flashy or expected to dribble past five players to score stunners every week. What he can do is create space on the flanks and deliver crosses for both Aubameyang and Lacazette to pounce upon.
1. Wilfried Zaha
The man who wreaked havoc at the Emirates and severely damaged Arsenal’s chances of a top-four finish could be a Gunner next season.
Let that sink in! The Crystal Palace winger has faced prior failure in the Manchester United ranks but he has refined his skills to an elite level after coming back to the Eagles.
He is being sought out by a number of English big guns, including arch-rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. Zaha is known for his ridiculous pace, athleticism and dribbling ability.
The Ivory Coast international is predicted to be worth well over £50m in the current market which could rise even higher with time. Most fans of top six Premier League clubs would welcome Zaha into their sides with open hands but there are a few things to be concerned with.
At 26 years old, Zaha’s on-pitch discipline is not where one would expect it to be. He is far too hot-headed and makes rash decisions in key situations which ends up costing his team.
