He was on the brink of signing with Manchester City in 2008 after completing his contract with the Red Devils. During his medical, Arsene Wenger called him with an offer and the centre-half did not hesitate even once.

He became the first person to get transferred between Manchester United to Arsena since Viv Anderson in 1987 and the first player to come into the Gunners from Old Trafford since Brian Kidd in 1974.

7. Frankie Stapleton

Frank Stapleton is a former Irish footballer who joined Arsenal in 1972, as an apprentice and officially signed in 1974. He helped Arsenal to 3 FA Cup finals and won them the 1979 final against Manchester United won 3-2, he scored one of his side’s 3 goals. He collected a remarkable tally of 108 goals for the Gunners in 300 appearances.

In 1981, he moved to Manchester United for £900,000 where he won two FA Cups. He made history by scoring in one of the FA Cup finals against Brighton, therefore becoming the first player ever to score for two different clubs in FA Cup finals. He finished his United career with 78 goals in 365 appearances.

6. Vivian Alexander Anderson

Anderson made a switch from Nottingham Forest to Arsenal in 1984 for £250,000 in a bid to revive his career. He played 120 games for Arsenal and scored 9 goals for them in the league, over four years. The only time he won a trophy with Arsenal was in 1987 when they beat Liverpool in the League Cup final.
