Mikel Arteta is Arsenal‘s current manager. The 42-year-old took charge of the Gunners in December 2019.

Introduction Into Arsenal Management Team

Mikel Arteta was presented with three opportunities upon his retirement, aged 34. Arsene Wenger offered him the head position of the Arsenal academy. Mauricio Pochettino wanted to welcome him into his backroom staff and Manchester City were willing to take him into Pep Guardiola’s coaching team.

Arteta took up the latter on 3 July 2016 and spent over three years honing his craft under one of the world’s best managers. Both Arteta and Guardiola were well versed with each other since their time at the Barcelona academy. Arteta’s enthusiasm in sending his compatriot reports on Chelsea during the Champions League semi-final in 2012 turned the tide in his favour.

Guardiola took a glowing eye towards the Arsenal man and took him under his wing. Three years of success followed at the Etihad with two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and two EFL Cups. People started taking note of Arteta’s effect in Guardiola’s highly-complicated system at Manchester, more so the Arsenal hierarchy.

In 2018, he was being lined up to replace Arsene Wenger himself but was dropped for Unai Emery. After just over a season, Arteta was recalled to replace Emery and his reign at Arsenal began, dated December 2019.

Mikel Arteta won the FA Cup title and Community Shield in 2020. Under him, Arsenal improved and they are looking to finish in the top four this season. They finished as runnerups in last two editions and fell short of title.
