In an unfortunate turn of events, an Arsenal fan was shot dead by the police on 21st December.
An UK-based human rights organization, Amnesty International has called it an ‘extrajudicial killing’.
Carilton David Maina was claimed to be returning home after watching a match along with three other friends when he was taken down by officials hunting for muggers in the particular area.
The police had been searching for a gang of four who was thought to be terrorizing the scene of the crime. Maina was thought to be a part of the criminal gang but his background showed a different story.
The 22-year-old hails from Africa’s biggest slums in Kibera and was residing in England after earning a scholarship to study engineering at Leeds University. An academic prodigy, Maina was simply visiting the Emirates stadium to watch his favourite team play.
Amnesty International has issued a statement urging the governing body to investigate the case with the utmost sense of purpose. They also stated how this incident is only furthering the reckless behaviour of the police force.
Arsenal paid tribute to Maina and his family during the 2-1 Cardiff City match.
