Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale admits his Arsenal and England concern
Aaron Ramsdale, a stellar goalkeeper who recently joined Arsenal, has expressed stress over a lack of playing time for both his club and his national team ambitions. Ramsdale, who was once a No.1 goalkeeper for several Premier League clubs, has been on the bench for the past month.
The shift in his role might be ascribed to David Raya’s loan signing from Brentford, which saw the Spaniard take up the coveted number-one spot in Mikel Arteta’s team right away. Ramsdale’s appearances have been limited to League Cup matches played between the international breaks in September and October. In particular, he kept a clean sheet against Brentford, showing his goalkeeping abilities.
However, Ramsdale’s insufficient game time is beginning to weigh on him, especially given his desire to represent England on the international scene. To address this worry, the determined goalkeeper understands that it is his responsibility to take the moment and implement the necessary improvements.
“Yeah, of course,” Ramsdale said. “It is the first time I have found myself in this situation. The England manager is brilliant, he trusts the players he’s worked with before.
“Kalvin Phillips and Harry Maguire haven’t played the most amount of minutes, but when they step up for England and are given the opportunity, they perform.
“So, if that’s the case for myself, and I do get shown that trust to play another game if I haven’t played for my club, then I will have to repay him.
“But, of course, I want to get back into my club team and be able to give Southgate a headache, rather than just have Jordan as the No1 and me fall by the wayside.”
England have already won their Euro 2024 qualification group, leading to some hope that Gareth Southgate could rotate his team for the remaining two matches.
“They are two England games which I could target,” Ramsdale added.
“But first and foremost I’ve got to give Southgate a decision and be available to be picked, and that is by getting back into my club team. If that’s not the case, then we’ll see in three or four weeks’ time.”
Ramsdale’s commitment to gaining more playing time at Arsenal and thereby increasing his chances of wearing the England jersey shows his dedication and ambition in the football world. His quest to reclaim his starting spot and grow for both club and country is certainly one to follow.
