Albert Sambi Lokonga joined Crystal Palace on loan for the remainder of the season.
The Belgian international joined the Gunners in the summer of 2021 in a deal worth £17million and struggled to adapt to the Premier League in the last two seasons.
He was scrutinised for his performance in the FA Cup defeat against Manchester City and thus chose to join Patrick Vieira’s side till the end of the season.
But Vieira insists that the 23-year-old won’t be guaranteed a starting place in the Eagles squad.
With the arrival of Jorginho this January, Lokonga made the right decision to join Crystal Palace.
Vieira said: ‘I spoke with Edu, not with Mikel [Arteta],” said the Palace boss. Edu really gave me the picture about the player on the field and off the field.
‘We know what kind of player we’re taking and which side of the game he needs to improve. He is a player who will help us.
‘He won’t have any kind of guarantee because, in our world, there is no guarantee of being in the starting 11. To get involved, you have to show that you deserve to play.
