Arsenal could be forced to offload some of their top stars as financial woes hit football clubs across the European continent.
The Mirror reported that Gunners chiefs have told players to take pay cuts amidst the global Coronavirus pandemic.
Arsenal had already recorded losses for the first time since 2002 after missing out on Champions League football for three years. The Gunners books posted an after-tax return of -£19m which is predicted to escalate after the current events. While they are employing some top players on ginormous contracts, the club might run into financial trouble in the near future.
Of course, being a large corporation, Arsenal are still better off than many other clubs in the Premier League. They are a well-run organization where the owners don’t invest a single penny into the operations. Their biggest issue this summer will be keeping hold of all of their best players.
Rumours already suggest that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will want to leave unless he is offered wages worth £300,000-per-week. To offer him that amount of money, Arsenal will be forced to sell one of their top players, notably Alexandre Lacazette. There has been interest for the Frenchman who is reportedly worth €45m. Atletico Madrid were previously close to signing him and could finally land him this year.
