Alexandre Lacazette’s contract will be over in June 2022.
Arsenal decided to keep the Frenchman last summer despite interest from Atletico Madrid and Juventus.
Lacazette delivered with an improved scoring run this season, hitting his best form in recent months. Now, the 29-year-old has scored 10 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions. He also has 2 assists.
Mikel Arteta is pleased with Lacazette and ideally would like to keep him. However, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang handed a sizeable contract and future additions necessary, Arsenal will be limited in what they can offer Lacazette. Unless negotiations progress positively, the Gunners would be inclined to sell him.
Reputed journalist, Fabrizio Romano told The Blind Gooner podcast, “At the moment Arsenal are happy with his performances. His mentality also in training because also I’m told that he’s training so well in the last weeks and everything.”
On Lacazette leaving the Emirates, Romano added: “This is an interesting situation because last summer he had an opportunity with Atletico Madrid, he was one of the options, but they decided to sign different players,” Romano said.
“For sure the situation of his contract is like ‘ok, we either extend the contract in the summer, or the player is leaving.’ Just because they can’t have the risk of him going for free.
“Let’s see also the situation of Italian clubs, because Lacazette was appreciated with Juventus, but they are happy with Morata.”
