Following his departure from Arsenal, Owen Asemota signed with Aston Villa. The goalie for England’s youth team has joined the academy of the club. Villa overcame fierce competition to acquire the 16-year-old, according to Academy Manager Mark Harrison. “We are delighted Owen has joined us,” he remarked. “A player with his profile was in great demand, as you might guess. Given that he has already played for England, we think this kid has a lot of promise.
After spending many years at the academy and being offered a contract extension, Asemota is expected to get £1 million from the Gunners as compensation for the deal. Currently, Arsenal and Villa are working through the procedure to complete the compensation payout. Asemota’s departure from Arsenal this summer brings the total number of goalkeepers to nine, if you include David Raya’s return as a permanent after his loan expires.
In addition, Ovie Ejeheri to Midtjylland, Arthur Okonkwo to Wrexham, Noah Cooper to Stoke City, James Hillson to Southend United, Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton, and Karl Hein to Real Valladolid on loan are all on the list. Out of the nine goalkeepers who left, Hubert Graczyk is the last one still available for free agency. Manchester United has been mentioned in connection with a move, but as of yet, nothing has materialized.
The Gunners, on the other hand, have only added three goalies thus far. Brentford’s Raya, Ajax’s Tommy Setford, and free agent Lucas Nygaard. Arsenal’s desire to add one or two goalkeepers before Friday’s deadline is understandable.
