Lille 22-year-old Jonathan David remains on Arsenal’s shortlist of centre-forward targets

Jonathan David, along with more frequently publicised names like Alexander Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, is one of the centre-forward alternatives Arsenal is considering ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to David’s agent, Nick Mavromaras, the player will finish the current season with Lille but will be leaving after that. Arsenal is scouting a variety of potential alternatives up front, including David.

According to reports, Arsenal has been a long-time admirer of David, and the club has a solid connection with the French club following the acquisitions of Gabriel Magalhaes and Nicolas Pepe.

“For us, the goal is to finish the season with Lille, but this will be his last season there for several reasons,” Mavromaras said.

“I think the Premier League is a great option for him. I think he likes Spain a lot too.

“These two leagues are the main priorities for him, but nothing is being ruled out.

“You never know with Paris Saint-Germain or the big Italian clubs. It’s normal that all these big clubs are interested in the top scorer in Ligue 1, but I can tell you that, today, there’s no official offer.”

David has had a fantastic start to life in France, scoring 16 goals in the first six games of the season. He’s currently in a goal drought, with no club goals since his final game in 2021. In his 27 international games, the Canadian international has scored 20 goals and assisted on 11 others.
