Arsenal and Albert Sambi Lokonga set to part ways

Arsenal and Albert Sambi Lokonga have mutually agreed to part ways this summer after extensive discussions regarding the Belgian midfielder’s future.

Following a season-long loan at Luton Town, Lokonga is now seeking a permanent move to secure regular first-team football.

Lokonga, 24, showcased his talent at Luton despite the club’s relegation from the Premier League. His performances caught the eye, especially his midfield partnership with Ross Barkley.

Lokonga’s contributions did not go unnoticed, earning praise from notable figures including former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.

“Lokonga, when you see him playing, you think: ‘Oh, he’s an Arsenal player and they loaned him?’ Interesting,” Klopp remarked in February.

Since joining Arsenal from Anderlecht in 2021 for approximately £15 million, Lokonga has struggled to establish himself under Mikel Arteta.

Limited opportunities led to a loan spell at Crystal Palace in the second half of the 2022-23 season.

Despite early interest from Burnley last summer, it was Luton who secured his services after a persuasive pitch from manager Rob Edwards.

Lokonga and Arsenal have now concluded that parting ways is the best option for both parties. The midfielder aims to attract interest from other clubs after proving his capabilities at Luton.

His impressive displays have bolstered his reputation, and he remains hopeful of securing a move that will provide him with the first-team opportunities he seeks.

As Lokonga prepares for the next chapter in his career, Arsenal fans will be watching to see where his journey takes him next. His potential departure marks another step in the club’s ongoing squad reshaping efforts.
