Arsenal are in dire need of a Director of Football and the club is strongly considering AS Roma’s Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo who is also known as Monchi.
The Gunners are currently highly unstable with former Head of Recruitment, Sven Mislintat also reported to have left the club. An end to Arsene Wenger’s 22-year reign at North London is bound to bring around some issues but it has started to get far too complicated for Unai Emery.
Just months after Wenger’s departure, former Chief Executive, Ivan Gazidis switched his allegiance to AC Milan. And now the club is losing 1-0 against BATE Borisov in the Europa League.
To be honest, the Gunners were not exactly a whole lot ot better over the past two seasons under Wenger. Their away record was equally bad if not worse and they were not anywhere close to a top-four finish in the Premier League.
Former Arsenal winger, Marc Overmars is also being considered for the position after observing his impressive work with Ajax, producing young talents like Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong over the past 5 years.
Monchi is considered as one of the best Sporting Directors in world football right now and is being heavily wooed by Manchester United as well.
Unai Emery’s debut season in England has not gone without its fair share of hiccups. While the majority believe that things have improved at Arsenal under the Spaniard, Arsenal could use all the more help to restablish themselves as a title-contending side.
Reports from Italy claim that AS Roma are currently evaluating Monchi’s future at the club.
