Wolves and Arsenal are facing a legal battle over Sao Paulo winger Marquinhos

The 19-year-old, who has played for Brazil’s Under-17 team, was set to sign a contract with the Emirates this summer.

However, the deal is now in jeopardy as it was revealed that Marquinhos has already signed a pre-contract agreement with Wolves.

According to sources close to the situation, despite the agreement between Marquinhos and Wolves, Sao Paulo offered the winger to the Gunners for a nominal amount.

Arsenal moved rapidly to get Marquinhos, and the trade was anticipated to be completed early this summer.

The athlete signed a five-year contract with Sao Paulo when he was 16 years old, which was set to expire in 2024.

However, FIFA regulations only allow young athletes to sign three-year contracts, therefore the last two years of his contract are practically nullified, leaving him a free agent this summer.

Marquinhos’ contract with Wolves is set to expire later this summer, and Wolves feel they have a legally binding agreement for him to join them.

Marquinhos’ Sao Paulo contract is set to end on July 12, and his Wolves agreement is set to begin on July 14.

However, it is reported that Sao Paulo initiated discussions with Arsenal in the hopes of getting a sum for a player who was ready to leave for free.

As a result, Wolves have sought legal advice on the situation ahead of a possible court fight that might have ramifications for Marquinhos’ long-running contract dispute.

Wolves are said to be exploring legal action against Sao Paulo, Arsenal, and the player.
