Nathaniel Brown, a defender for Eintracht Frankfurt, is supposedly being pursued by Arsenal. The 22-year-old is worth €60 million (£52 million), according to a Fichajes report, and Arsenal hopes to complete the transaction soon. Teams like Real Madrid and Manchester City will compete with them.
Whether they make a formal bid to close the acquisition is still up in the air. Without a doubt, the 22-year-old left defender has the technical skills to succeed in the Premier League as well. He has demonstrated his abilities in Germany. But the transfer to Arsenal may not be very logical.
Myles Lewis-Skelly and Riccardo Calafiori of the Gunners are already qualified for that position. Instead, they ought to consider investing in their squad’s other areas. Despite Brown’s superior performance over both players in the previous season, Arsenal is unlikely to replace them right now.
However, Brown is already under contract at the Deutsche Bank Park until 2030, having only signed an extension in February, so Frankfurt doesn’t need to sell him for a low price.
Journalist Florian Plettenberg, however, asserts that the German team is expecting “top offers” for the 22-year-old next year, when interested parties will need to spend €60 million (£52.2 million) to entice him away from the Bundesliga.
According to Plettenberg, Brown’s long-term contract lacks a release provision, leaving teams at Frankfurt’s mercy in discussions. It’s also unclear if the player is willing to leave Deutsche Bank Park so quickly.
After strikers Hugo Ekitike, Randal Kolo Muani, Luka Jovic, and Omar Marmoush, Brown’s possible £52.2 million departure would make him Frankfurt’s greatest defensive departure ever and the sixth most expensive sale ever.
A deal for Brown might potentially hinder the Englishman’s development as he competes with Rayan Ait-Nouri for left-back minutes, while Man City recently committed the young Nico O’Reilly to his own renewal.
