According to Sky Sports, the Gunners are determined to secure the services of the in-form forward, despite Villa’s reluctance to part ways with their star man.

The North London club’s need for a reliable striker has become increasingly urgent. Gabriel Jesus, who has struggled with consistency this season, was recently ruled out for the remainder of the campaign due to an ACL injury.

Meanwhile, Kai Havertz, Arteta’s other senior striking option, has failed to cement his place as a dependable goal threat. This has left Arsenal scrambling for reinforcements, with Watkins emerging as a prime target.

Earlier this week, Arsenal’s initial £60 million offer for Watkins was swiftly rejected by Villa. The Midlands club were reportedly frustrated by the timing of the bid, which came just hours before their crucial Champions League clash against Celtic.

Watkins, who has been instrumental in Villa’s push for European qualification, has enjoyed a stellar season so far, netting 10 goals and providing 5 assists in 23 Premier League appearances.

Despite Villa’s firm stance, Arsenal remain undeterred. The potential departure of Jhon Duran, who is reportedly close to joining a Saudi Arabian club, has added a layer of intrigue to the situation.

Villa are already exploring replacements for Duran, which could hint at a possible shift in their stance on Watkins.

However, with the transfer window set to close in early February, a deal for the England international still appears unlikely.

Watkins’ importance to Unai Emery’s side cannot be overstated. Described as “unbelievable” by his manager, the 28-year-old has been a key figure in Villa’s rise this season.

For Arsenal, landing him would be a significant coup, but time is running out to negotiate a deal that satisfies all parties.

As the clock ticks down, Arsenal fans will be hoping for a breakthrough.

However, with Villa determined to retain their talisman, it seems increasingly likely that Watkins will remain in the Midlands for the foreseeable future.
