Stephan Lichtsteiner joined Juventus from Lazio for €10 million in 2011. He has been their mainstay in the defense and has established himself as one of the best wing-backs in the world with constant solid performances.
The 34 year old has tasted a lot of success with the Turin side, winning the domestic title in each of his seven seasons. He has scored 14 goals in 250 appearances since joining them.
The Swiss International will leave the Serie A giants when his contract with the club expires. He will be a free agent and admitted that he will not stay in Italy and wants to seek a new challenge.
“I’m playing in one of the biggest clubs in Europe and there’s always competition for places,” Lichtsteiner told Mediaset after making his 300th appearance against Bologna this month. “But my future is going to be away from Turin. At the end of the season I’m leaving. I’ll play abroad next year but I’ve not signed anything yet.”
As soon as he announced his exit he was linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund but the right back has ruled out a move to the German club.
Arsenal are hoping to sign defender Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer, according to The Guardian.
The Gunners are expected to overhaul their squad this summer after an underwhelming campaign this season. Unai Emery has been appointed as the new manager and is expected to be busy in the transfer window in order to strengthen the squad for next season.
They view him as an option that would add experience and leadership to new head coach Emery’s squad and could be the first signing under him.
