German media reports that Hugo Ekitike, a striker for Eintracht Frankfurt, is ‘hot’ for Arsenal. The Frenchman is having an incredible season, even though he had a little lull after his companion in crime, Omar Marmoush, left. When compelled to pick up the scraps by himself, Ekitike is doing quite well.
The 22-year-old has changed completely since moving to Frankfurt from PSG. In all competitions so far this season, Ekitike has scored 19 goals and provided eight assists for the team. Against England last week, he also scored an incredible hat-trick for France’s U21 team.
Interestingly, Frankfurt still plans to sell Ekitike this summer, even if Marmoush’s departure and the enormous amount of money his sale brought in were factors. Frankfurt is eager to give Ekitike another big paycheck, and he is eager to go forward.
As a result, they have lavished the France international with a price tag of €80 million, although it is unclear if they will actually get that much. However, there is little doubt that Ekitike has plenty of admirers.
Arsenal join Hugo Ekitike race
Mikel Arteta has struggled at Arsenal for the whole of the season without a designated No. 9. Many people think Eintracht will ask £67 million for Ekitike this summer. The valuation is not all that different from that of strikers Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesko, who have also been linked to summer departures. A team will probably have to pay more than nine figures for Alexander Isak, the Newcastle striker who is also drawing interest.
Last summer, the loan move to Eintracht became permanent. With other elite European teams planning to bid for new strikers in the summer, the Bundesliga team may now benefit. Because of the high demand for forwards, Eintracht will be able to demand a hefty fee.
Although Arsenal’s willingness to pay €80 million for Ekitike is unknown, they probably acknowledge that they will need to spend a significant amount of money to get a No. 9 this summer, especially considering that longtime target Benjamin Sesko is priced similarly.
