Arsenal had a very busy summer as Unai Emery was appointed as the new manager of the club after Arsene Wenger decided to leave the club after 22 years. The Spaniard signed a three-year deal worth £15 million.
He was given the charge with the task of rebuilding the squad and returning the club to the European elite while challenging for other major honours, after they finished sixth in the Premier League last season resulting in missing the Champions League this season.
However, the Gunners didn’t got off to a great start as they have begun life under the new manager with back-to-back defeats against their big rivals Chelsea and Manchester City. But won their next three fixtures against West Ham United, Cardiff City and Newcastle United.
It has been suggested that the Spaniard will need more transfer windows to make them strong enough to challenge for silverware and could make more additions during the January transfer window.
Arsenal are interested in signing Ever Banega, according to the Sun.
The Argentina International joined Sevilla back in 2014 and played a key role in the side that won consecutive Europa League trophies in 2015 and 2016. He joined Inter Milan in 2016 but returned back to club after just 1 year.
Emery has worked with the midfielder previously when he was the manager of the La Liga giants and was also interested in bringing him this summer. But he decided to extend his second spell with the club.
However, he is still interested in bringing the Argentine as he sees him as a way to boost midfield competition. The player has an £18 million buy-out clause to land him before his contract expires at the end of next season.
It will be one of the first deals Raul Sanllehi will look at in his new role as head of football, following Ivan Gazidis’ departure.
