The midfielder may be sold by Roma to fund for other signings

Arsenal are expected to overhaul their side this summer after an underwhelming Premier League campaign this season. They finished 6th in the league and will miss the Champions League next season.

Unai Emery has been appointed as the new manager for the club and he is likely to be very busy in the summer transfer window in order to strengthen the squad for the next season.

One of the key areas the Gunners need to resolve is their midfield, Santi Cazaorla have left the club after his contract expired and Aaron Ramsey’s future is still uncertain as he could be sold in order to raise funds which leaves them short in that area.

Roma starlet Lorenzo Pellegrini has emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal in the summer transfer window, Goal understands.

Lorenzo joined the youth academy of the Serie A giants at the age of 9 but was sold to Sassuolo for a fee of €1.25 million in 2015 but the club retained a buy back clause.

Giallorossi exercised the buy back clause of €10 million and brought back the 21 year old on a 5 year deal last summer. He has been a regular this season for the club, scoring 3 goals and assisting 5 in 37 appearances in all competitions.

The Italian was a key part of the side that battled through to the Champions League semi-finals in 2017-18.

The midfielder’s exit  may be necessary at the Stadio Olimpico to fund the arrival of Atalanta midfielder Bryan Cristante. The 23-year-old would be available for roughly €30 million, with Kevin Strootman also tipped to leave the club.

And while Arsenal are not prepared to shell out £27 million to meet the player’s release clause, they will try to tempt Roma into selling with a bid worth around £22 million.
