We are all aware of the Gunners’ interest in former German international, Jerome Boateng. Bayern Munich were unwilling to part with him in January, otherwise, he could have been an Arsenal player already.
Mikel Arteta is looking at dominant profiles who are athletic, composed and also technically good on the ball. He prefers to play a high defensive line which usually requires centre-halfs to be pretty quick of the marks. Hence, Arsenal are also scouting Dayot Upamecano, Jonathan Tah and Evan Ndicka.
Arsenal failed to sign Upamecano last summer with a bid of £55m but RB Leipzig might finally agree to part ways with him for such a fee. The Frenchman has refused to extend his contract beyond June 2021, which indicates that he is ready to move on. Fans have been hearing his name for over a season now and still have not grown tired of him.
Jonathan Tah is a bit more developed at 24, having played nine times for Germany and also a regular at Bayer Leverkusen. He is thought to have a release clause of €40m with a contract until the summer of 2023. Tah fits the profile of Arteta’s but still needs time to become a complete player.
Ndicka is another prospect who is showcasing a lot of potential with Eintracht Frankfurt. He has made 25 appearances this season and growing with each game. The centre-half has just one appearance for the France U21 side and still has a lot to prove. Arsenal are looking at all the top options to upgrade and might end up choosing either one of the four (please don’t let it be Boateng).
