Granit Xhaka has admitted to Arsenal’s mental frailties after the 2-2 draw against Watford on Sunday.
The Gunners gave up a two-goal lead to drop 2 crucial points away from home and in the process drop behind Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United in the Premier League table.
“We are very disappointed, we had a good first half and then we came out and played so bad in the second half. We paid for that,” Xhaka told BBC Sport.
“We knew they had nothing to lose and they would come for us but we didn’t show our game, we were too scared, nobody wanted the ball. Every team in the Premier League is strong enough to score so you have to stay calm, be mentally strong and we weren’t today.”
Arsenal are now 8th in the table and are no better than their top-four rivals. With the common theme of last season carrying over, Unai Emery’s position has been questioned at the club.
Xhaka himself is under strict review after one of his errors cost the Gunners points in the previous league fixture. The Swiss international has managed to keep his starting spot through all the noise and as a captain, he has stated a truth which can no longer be denied at Arsenal Football Club.
