According to sources, Arsenal has intensified their efforts to sign Sverre Nypan, a gifted 18-year-old midfielder who is a target for Manchester City. Nypan is regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young players and has already made 50 appearances for the Norwegian team Rosenborg. Since the window falls during the Norwegian off-season, a January move is more likely, and the teenager might be available for a cheap £10 million cost.

Nypan’s future has not yet been decided upon, according to The Athletic, but Arsenal is making progress in talks with both his club and the player’s representation. Arsenal hopes that Nypan’s decision will be influenced by his bond with fellow countryman Odegaard, the source continues. Even though the teenager is somewhat inexperienced, a deal would probably see him immediately join Mikel Arteta’s first team.

Arsenal advancing in talks for first January signing

A number of influential teams, including Manchester United, were negotiating with Nypan’s group, according to a December 18 TEAMtalk exclusive. Other teams interested in the Norwegian midfielder at the time were Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich. But as we revealed last week, Manchester United had left the battle for Nypan, and now Arsenal is the front-runner.

In an apparent attempt to meet his future employers, the midfield player was seen at Oslo Airport boarding a flight to Manchester, according to Norwegian media site Adressa. Reluctantly, Rosenborg will take a bid of about £15 million for Nypan, which, if he fulfills his elite potential, might turn out to be one of the best deals of the century. In the upcoming days, it will be intriguing to observe if Arsenal makes progress in their negotiations to sign Nypan.
