Arsenal are locked in a transfer battle with Chelsea and Inter Milan for German defender, Matthias Ginter.
Plenty of clubs are after the centre-back after he helped Borussia Monchengladbach to a Champions League spot this season.
Ginter has really come into his own playing for Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund, and Gladbach. He made 36 appearances this season and has been capped 29 times by the German national side. Ginter certainly fits the profile. He brings with him experience, leadership at the back and a level of consistency that has really been lacking in this Arsenal side.
After all, it has been mistakes that have blown up in Arsenal’s faces time and time again this season. If it were not for the blatant error from Sead Kolasinac against Tottenham, the Gunners could have been within a shot of Europa League football. Mikel Arteta had said after the 2-1 defeat, “There have been various things that have cost us games. Sometimes errors, sometimes game management. The margin is a lot, at the moment we have to improve.”
Arsenal’s current lineup of centre-backs are simply not good enough to transcend the side into a Champions League qualifying side. The competition is tough there needs to be more resolute figures present at the back. The tough part is their transfer budget, which might derail their upcoming goals once again.
Chelsea and Inter are thought to be ahead of Arsenal in the race for Ginter. With his stock so high right now, Gladbach is bound to charge a premium sum for the 26-year-old. Whether the Gunners will be able to pull one him out under the noses of their rivals remains to be seen.
