The SUN claims that Unai Emery has forwarded his demands for five summer signings to the Arsenal hierarchy.
The Spaniard was disappointed to find no money in the coffers when he planned on certain improvements in the January transfer window. He could only bring in Denis Suarez on loan from Barcelona when the club clearly needed more defensive reinforcements.
As per the latest reports, he has been simply offered £40m to work with after the commencement of this season. It could be difficult to fit in 5 signings within those boundaries so Emery will reportedly settle for 3.
In the present market, that too might be hard to achieve when clubs like Arsenal are involved. All of the players scouted and signed by Emery since his introduction to the Emirates has come at a hard bargain.
But that might not work when he plans on going after marquee signings which the club could definitely use to compete for the title next term. While he has lined up a left-back as one of his necessary additions, the backline could use more than just one quality addition.
Shkodran Mustafi is simply not good enough to start games and Laurent Koscielny is due to turn 34 this year. Liverpool turned themselves into the best defensive side in the English top-flight this season after spending £75m on Virgil van Dijk last year.
The report claims that Mesut Ozil and his £350,000 wage bill can be offloaded as well next summer in order to free up space for newer additions. The German is understandably not in Emery’s long-term plans and continues to simply warm the benches in crucial games for the Gunners.
