It was Arsenal’s second-largest victory in the Champions League.
Arsenal were clinically great in dominating a 6-0 win over Lens in the UEFA Champions League. The Gunners set new records in their European win at Emirates.
The North London club secured a big win and qualified for the knockout round of the Champions League. They confirmed their position at the top of the Group B table.
Arsenal also took revenge for their loss to Lens in the previous fixture. Mikel Arteta’s side were four goals ahead before the half-hour mark, thanks to a strike of Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
Arsenal’s four-goal lead inside the first 27 minutes is the joint-fastest an English club has ever scored four in a Champions League fixture. They equalled the record by Manchester United who netted four goals in the same period against Brondby in 1998. Man United went on to win the trophy.
Martin Odegaard netted the fifth goal before half-time and Arsenal became the first Premier League club in Champions League history to lead a game by five or more goals at half-time.
Mikel Arteta’s side is the first club from any European nation to have as many as five different scorers in the first half of a Champions League match.
Arsenal’s 6-0 win is the biggest victory by any English club against a French opponent in European competition. It was their second-largest victory in the Champions League.
