The Europa League final in Baku is proving to be more challenging before the match is even kicked off.
The initial problems started off with the fans extremely irritated of both camps because Baku is not easily accessible. There are no direct flights as such on the day of the match from London and that is not ideal when the final is being played by two London teams.
Both clubs sent strongly worded complaints to UEFA in support of the difficulty the fans are facing and before UEFA can properly recover from such an embarrasing comeback, a new controversy has started.
Arsenal’s Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has had to withdraw from the final since nobody has been able to offer him security given Baku’s political scenario.
Now club captain Laurent Koscielny has spoken out condemning and blasting UEFA for their lack of forethought.
“I am not very happy,” the defender told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“Firstly because we need to leave one player here, because he can’t play in the final.
“I think UEFA needs to know about the different problems they can have with the politics in the country.
“When one country has a problem with another they should not give the final to that country.
“For us it is difficult because we want to have ‘Micki’ with us. He is an important player for us.”
