During Norway’s 2-1 victory over Austria on Monday night, Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard had to leave the game due to what appeared to be an ankle injury. The 25-year-old midfielder seemed to twist his left ankle following a tackle from behind by Austria’s Christoph Baumgartner during his team’s Nations League match in Oslo in the 64th minute.

The former Real Madrid playmaker attempted to walk off the field on his own after the two-minute treatment break, but medical personnel helped him to the side-lines, where Kristian Thorstvedt took his place. The injury “looked bad” in the dressing room, according to Norway’s head coach, Stale Solbakken, who also stated that the midfield player will undergo more testing on Tuesday.

The next three games for Arsenal are on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur, on Tuesday in the Champions League against Atalanta, and on Sunday, September 22, away to Manchester City.

Odegaard carried off pitch in tears as Arsenal suffer major injury scare

Arsenal is already without Declan Rice for their upcoming Premier League match, so the injury concern comes at the worst possible time. Rice will be suspended for this weekend’s North London derby against Tottenham after he was controversially sent off during the draw with Brighton the previous time out.

Following his transfer from Real Sociedad a few days prior, Mikel Merino had an unusual injury that has rendered him sidelined as well. In his first training session with his new teammates, the Spain international hurt his shoulder, and Mikel Arteta confirmed he would be sidelined for several weeks.

It is regrettable, indeed. Following an accident yesterday, he is expected to miss several weeks of time due to a shoulder injury. First session with us,” he said prior to the World Cup.
