Arsenal Carries Aubameyang When He Is Off Form - Tony Cascarino

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been accused of being carried by Arsenal.

The Gabon international has hit a rough patch, scoring just twice in the Premier League so far.

He scored against Fulham on opening day and then broke a drought with a penalty against Manchester United. His expected goals ratio has declined monumentally and fans are starting to get concerned.

After all, Aubameyang did get awarded with a giant contract in the summer, something similar to that of Mesut Ozil in 2018. No one would like to see his form dip after banking the biggest deal of his career.

“Aubameyang always confuses me. I have to be careful how I choose my words because I know he’s so much better than what I’ve ever been,” Tony Cascarino told TalkSport (via HITC).

“He’s a great player when he wants to be and up there with the very best, but when he doesn’t it feels like you’re carrying him. He’s on the fringe of a game.”

Aubameyang’s position out wide is a bit unusual for him but it delivered results last season. He scored against top opposition and finished just a goal behind Golden Boot winner, Jamie Vardy.

There is an outcry for the forward to be played down the middle but Mikel Arteta is likely to stick to his plans.
