Arsenal are currently scouring the market for centre-backs and one of their top targets, Fernando Calero was spotted in London.
The Real Valladolid defender posted a picture on Instagram revealing his location, H10 London Waterloo. It sent Arsenal fans into a frenzy with clearer links of a transfer move being set up as we approach the January window.
Calero is being closely monitored by Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla as well. His release clause is understood to be around £10m with his current deal set to run till the summer of 2021.
Arsenal are facing a probing issue in the centre-back position after Rob Holding’s season-ending injury last month. With the Englishman gone and Dinos Mavropanos sidelines as well, Emery has been forced to play Granit Xhaka in the centre-half position and the result of that decision has been disastrous.
The Gunners were defeated by Southampton at the Saint Mary’s last week to end their 22-game unbeaten run. They followed it up by a 0-2 Carabo Cup loss to Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates.
Laurent Koscielny is slowly making his way back into regular football since his recovery from an Achilles tear. While Emery can rely on Sokratis Papasthapolous and Shkodran Mustafi to take up first-team responsibilities, Arsenal will require backup to handle multiple competitions for the remainder of the season.
