Manchester City lost to Bournemouth on Tuesday; Arsenal won the Premier League for the first time in 22 years. Man City, who had won six of the previous eight seasons, needed to win in order to cut the deficit with Arsenal to two points and go to Sunday’s season finale.

However, Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi’s goal in the 39th minute placed City down, and Erling Haaland’s equaliser in stoppage time came too late for Pep Guardiola’s team to secure the necessary victory.

There were wild celebrations outside Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium after the full-time whistle, and there will undoubtedly be more when the north London team plays Crystal Palace on Sunday in the season’s final match.

Declan Rice, a midfielder, shared a picture of himself and his teammates celebrating on Instagram with the remark, “I told you all … it’s done.” Arsenal’s 14th English championship is their first since 2003–04, when the “Invincibles” under Arsène Wenger went undefeated. Only Liverpool and Manchester United have won 20.

Only Liverpool and Manchester United have won 20.

For the majority of this season, Arsenal have been in the lead, and after a decades-long wait, they have finally crossed the finish line despite having their points lead erode over a thrilling closing stretch.

The foundation of their success has been strong defence and skill with set pieces. With 19 clean sheets in their 37 games, Arsenal has let up a league-low 26 goals while scoring a league-high 24 goals from set pieces. They have the most corner kick goals of any side in the Premier League’s history, with 18 this season.
