The player will have medicals with the Gunners soon

Arsenal endured an underwhelming season as they failed to win any silverware in Arsene Wenger’s final campaign. They finished 6th in the Premier League and will miss the Champions League next season.

Unai Emery has been appointed as the new manager of the Gunners and is charged with the task of returning the club to the European elite while challenging for major honours.

The Spaniard has targeted a defensive midfielder ahead of the next season. Santi Cazorla have left the club after his contract expired at the end of the season and Jack Wilshere is approaching towards free agency after he rejected a new deal from the club.

The Club have been heavily linked with a move for Sampdoria midfielder Lucas Torreira and there were speculations in the past few weeks that a deal could be agreed very soon.

The 22 year old joined the Italian side from Pescara in 2015 but remained with them on loan for the rest of the season. He returned in the upcoming season and established himself as a regular for them.

He continued to show his importance in the 2017/2018 campaign and became a key player at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. He managed to score 4 goals and provided 1 assist in 38 appearances in all competitions.

Arsenal are close to finalizing a a £26 million deal for Torreira and the Uruguayan will have medicals with the club soon. Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed he and defender Sokratis are heading to north London.

He tweeted as quoted by Daily Star: “Lucas Torreira will have medicals with Arsenal soon, the deal is completed. And Arsenal will finalize Sokratis Papastathopoulous deal too!”

The lack of a natural screening presence behind Xhaka or Ramsey has often seemed to unbalance the team in recent seasons and it is hoped that a deal to bring the Uruguay International can be progressed once he finishes his World Cup involvement with his National team.
