Arsenal Coach Backs Mikel Arteta To Return To Arsenal

Per Mertesacker would be thrilled to have Mikel Arteta return to Arsenal, the German stated.

The Gunners are clearly struggling in their second season under Unai Emery and the Spaniard could face the sack soon.

Arteta was already linked to Emery’s position when Arsene Wenger vacated the position in 2018. Due to his inexperience at top management level, Emery was prefered and it has turned into a disaster now.

Arsenal youth academy manager, Per Mertesacker has praised his former teammate and revealed his glee at the possibility of seeing him return to the club.

“I was his vice-captain at Arsenal and he trusted me,” Mertesacker told FourFourTwo. “I was by his side during team meetings and we had a great bond. I’d love to work with him again, a top guy.”

Arteta is drawing links to not just the Gunners job for the second time but to Everton as well. The fans at Goodison Park are growing frustrated with Marco Silva’s tactics which has left the club languishing in the 15th spot after 12 games.

Arteta was not a popular choice when he first came in consideration for the Arsenal job and he might not be one now either. No matter how good his reputation might be, he still lacks any experience in top brass management. Chelsea’s Frank Lampard at least had one season under his belt before taking over the Blues.
