Folarin Balogun, an Arsenal attacker, has completed a permanent move to Monaco

The USMNT international leaves Mikel Arteta’s side after three years for a rumoured €40 million move to the Principality club. He has agreed to a five-year contract with the Monégasques, who are presently atop the Ligue 1 league after three games.

Balogun scored twice in ten appearances for Arsenal in all competitions before loan spells at Middlesbrough and Stade de Reims. The 22-year-old scored 21 goals in 37 domestic appearances for the Ligue 1 club, putting him in contention for the Golden Boot.

“Folarin Balogun has joined Ligue 1 side AS Monaco on a permanent transfer,” Arsenal said in a statement. We appreciate Folarin for his service to Arsenal, from our Academy to the first team, and wish him the best of luck in his new chapter with AS Monaco. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.”

The USMNT striker had piqued the curiosity of a number of elite teams throughout Europe, with Serie A heavyweights Inter holding negotiations with him earlier this summer. 90min understands that Chelsea was also interested, but they were unwilling to come close to Arsenal’s asking price.

Balogun has signed a five-year contract at Monaco and might make his debut against Lens this weekend at the Stade Louis II.
