Arsenal are interested in roping in Antonio Valencia, the defender’s father Luis Valencia has confirmed.
The right back is in the last year of his Manchester United contract and the club decided not to trigger the one year extension. The Ecuadorian international is free to join any club and is expected to attract the interest of a number of clubs.
Except the persistent injury problems the 33 year old is still going strong and was the preferred choice for Jose Mourinho on the right side of the defence. But the resurgence of Ashley Young and the arrival of Diogo Dalot have complicated his situation a bit more.
Luis Valencia who also happens to be his agent insists the player is on the verge of leaving the Old Trafford. “He definitely will not continue in Manchester.
“He wants a change in the air and the club is not going to renew him either. Like everything in life, everything comes to an end.
“Arsenal, West Ham, Inter Milan and one club from China are options, but in football everything is changing.
“He wants to choose the best option, but above all he wants to sign a contract for two years.
“Not for the money, but for peace and hopefully, he told me, be hired by a team that fights for important things.”
