According to reports from the Telegraph, Arsenal are thinking of hiring Marc Overmars as their Sporting Director after Monchi joined Sevilla.

There were several reports linking Monchi to Arsenal. Monchi had even worked with Arsenal manager Unai Emery during his time at Sevilla before leaving to join AS Roma. Many thought that Monchi would join Arsenal.

However, the former Sevilla goalkeeper decided to return to the only club he played for.

Arsenal are eager to fill the Sporting Director role which was vacated by Raul Sanllehi. Additionally, Sven Mislintat also resigned from his position as Arsenal’s Head of Recruitment.

Overmars was linked to Arsenal for a while and it seems that the club are interested in bringing their former player back.

Overmars however, is currently the technical director of his former club Ajax with whom he won the Champions League 24 years ago.

Overmars had a successful spell at Arsenal from 1997-2000 during which, he played 130 matches, scoring 36 goals and 29 assists. While at Arsenal, he helped the club to the Premier League and FA Cup double in the 1997-98 season.

It will be interesting to see whether Overmars will consider joining the Gunners.

Arsenal’s Premier League campaign resumes next month when they face Newcastle on the 1st.
