Ben Jacobs, a transfer specialist, said in his exclusive CaughtOffside blog that the Hammers are prepared to lose Rice this summer and might fetch £70-75 million for the midfielder—£30 million less than the asking price from the previous summer.
Rice, who has spent his whole professional career with West Ham, is now 23 and eager for a new challenge. The England player said at the World Cup that he envies his colleagues who play in the Champions League, which might help teams like Arsenal and Manchester United who are interested in signing him.
Jacobs claims that Chelsea has put in somewhat more effort on this offer than the majority, but it’s likely to be a very close battle, and Arsenal may well join it later.
Jacobs said the following on Rice’s future: “Sources have repeatedly claimed that Rice would like to remain in London, which opens the door to both Arsenal and Chelsea, possibly more so than Manchester United.
Rice has expressed his readiness for a new challenge and praised Mikel Arteta while praising Arsenal.
