Nicolas Pepe could go to Paris Saint Germain instead of Arsenal

According to reports from the rumour mill, Arsenal have agreed a move for Lille winger Nicolas Pepe, but an intervention from Paris Saint Germain could see the move fall through. Earlier the Gunners seemed to have made the breakthrough for the 23-year-old after agreeing on a fee in excess of £72m.

The blockbuster transfer would see the club surpassing the record £60m fee they paid to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2018.

Pepe set the Ligue1 alight with his impressive performances, scoring 22 goals in 28 league appearances for Lille. The forward has also been linked with a move to Napoli. However, Arsenal’ £9m-a-year deal is far more lucrative in contrast to the personal terms offered by the Italian side.

Paris Saint Germain could scupper Pepe’s move to the Emirates with a last-minute bid. But an £80m move for the attacker would require them to sell Neymar first, in order to abide by the Financial Fairplay Rules.

Following a 2-1 loss to Lyon in the Emirates Cup at home yesterday, Unai Emery’s men are now preparing to face French side Angers on the 31st of July.
