Arsenal could part ways with Calum Chambers this summer and not on a temporary basis like last time.
The English defender who just returned from his season-long loan spell with Fulham is attracting interest from Lazio. He has already notified the Gunners that he does not wish to be sent out on another loan deal.
Even though the Cottagers suffered relegation from the Premier League, Chambers emerged to be their best player with 33 appearances. He was named as their Player Of The 2018/19 Season last month after collecting 48.4% of the fans’ votes.
The 24-year-old mostly featured in the defensive midfield position this past term, a spot where Unai Emery is not eager to add any more players.
Chambers is primarily a centre-half but his technical abilities make him more effective in a more advanced role. With Arsenal looking to add tenacious and sturdy centre-halfs this offseason, it might be a good idea to sell Chambers to raise more funds.
Unai Emery’s rumoured £45m transfer budget limits his powers to a great extent and he needs to rinse out any extra bit of cash he can find to make the necessary improvements. Chambers’ contract is due to end in 2022 and he is fresh coming off an impressive season.
The Englishman’s value is at the highest it has ever been since he joined Arsenal but yet Lazio are only offering £12.5m. Arsene Wenger signed him for £16m in 2014 and the Gunners would like, if not anything, recuperate that sum 5 years later.
