It was not too long ago that other reports claimed that the defender was looking to move out of the Emirates. The rumours were immediately killed by his centre-half partner, Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Other sources also claimed that both Koscielny and Mohamed Elneny were being wooed by Turkish outfit, Fenerbahce. That particular report stated that the club’s sporting director had supposedly met with the duo at Baku this past week when Arsenal was facing off against Chelsea Europa League final.
Koscielny is about to enter the final season of his contract with the Gunners. At 33, he has shown signs of slowing down this past season but has still managed to appear in 31 games, scoring 3 goals.
Now, it is no secret that Unai Emery is looking for defensive reinforcements and the Frenchman could quite possibly be replaced by a younger player next season but is there really a need to sell him?
Koscielny has laid out his heart and soul for the North Londoners throughout his 9 years with them. His defensive inadequacies can be tied down to his age but he could still be a solid backup option and a mentor to whoever comes into the club this summer.
He is still massively loved by the Arsenal fans and is definitely better than the club’s young duo, Calum Chambers and Rob Holding. Not only are Inter not interested in the veteran centre-half, Arsenal definitely do not need to get rid of him anytime soon. His sale won’t exactly raise an outstanding amount and letting him play for one more season could be the best option for all parties.
