AS Monaco is looking to offer the Frenchman a way back to his homeland and also to make the best out of his experience in the European top-flight.
The centre-half only has 12 more months left in his contract with the Gunners and his future in the Premier League is pretty much in doubt after the last season. He made 29 appearances after coming back from an Achilles injury but his performances were marred with embarrassing mistakes, maybe not as bad as Mustafi’s but definitely concerning enough for Arsenal fans.
Koscielny is at the twilight of his playing career and he is no longer the defensive rock that he once was at North London. The 33-year-old has lost the bit of pace he had to track down speedy forwards and is often late with his challenges.
While his determination and effort on the pitch is still admirable, maybe the time has come for Arsenal to get him replaced with an younger and more capable figure. Reports claim that Unai Emery has shortlisted quite a few players in the centre-half position for this summer’s transfer window.
With Calum Chambers returning to the club and Rob Holding set to recover from his knee injury, Koscielny might slowly get pushed out of the starting XI next term. He is also being tracked by Stade Rennais, the team he played against in the dramatic Europa League quarterfinals.
Raul Sannelhi has already stated that players with an uncertain future will be offloaded after what happened with Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey. Koscielny should definitely discuss his future with the Arsenal boss before making a decision on any transfer offers.
