Arsenal’s new Director of Football Richard Garlick has been tasked with handling two major contract issues.
Alexandre Lacazette will be out of contract within a year and a decision needs to be made about his future.
The Frenchman has not been involved since pulling up his hamstrings against Fulham last month but he has come alive this season. He leads Arsenal’s scoring through this sorry excuse of a season.
Lacazette might have done well since Christmas but he has mostly underwhelmed during his time at North London. He is now 29 and clearly not the lethal goalscorer the Gunners expected him to be. Arsenal already handed a giant contract to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last summer which indicates that he is set to be their main forward.
If Lacazette is moved on, it will open up the space to make additions in other areas. Arsenal will also need to deal with Emile Smith Rowe’s contract. The 20-year-old has burst onto the scene this season after spending a year on loan to Huddersfield Town.
He is in line to receive a pay bump just like Bukayo Saka did. Both youngsters have showcased clearly signs of intent to succeed at Arsenal Football Club. For that reason and their immense potential, they deserve to be rewarded.
