The 22-year-old has been enjoying a breakout season in the League One, scoring 6 goals and keeping the Addicks hopeful of winning promotion. He has quickly come to be known as a highly versatile midfield presence, although Lee Bowyer likes to use him in the attacking midfield post.
Aribo’s contract is winding down to an end this season and he has rejected the last offer from Charlton. The Valiants reportedly wanted to sign him last summer itself but eventually failed to convince the youngster.
Plenty of European clubs like Benfica and Eintracht Frankfurt were touted to whisk Aribo away after this season but the Gunners seem to have joined in on the race. They are known to be leading the pack with their better and improved financial resources.
Even if Aribo moves to the Emirates for free this July, Charlton will be due to receive a compensation fee for the player’s development.
How the 22-year-old Englishman will fit into this Arsenal side remains a mystery. Unai Emery had managed to shock the fans by signing Matteo Guendouzi from a Ligue 2 side last summer.
