Arsenal are reportedly closing in on Atletico Madrid midfielder, Thomas Partey.
For the entirety of the season, the Ghanian midfielder has been Arsenal’s top transfer target and they might finally be able to seal the deal this summer.
Partey’s father has previously expressed a desire to see his son play for the Gunners. At 27, he is viewed as the gamechanger in midfield that Arsenal desperately needs. Partey is tall, strong, defensively astute and terrific distributor. He will be the jack of all trades in that central pivot role that Granit Xhaka currently occupies.
With Dani Ceballos departing after this season and Lucas Torreira still developing himself, Arsenal need a player like Partey to bring more stability in their central spaces. After losing Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey over the last few years, there has been a steep decline in midfield quality at the Emirates.
Partey would cost a considerable amount but £50 million is hardly a new bracket for quality players in the current market. Signing proven stars is bound to drive a high sum and Arsenal knows that. The midfielder’s contract with Atletico Madrid is set to end in June 2023 and his release clause is worth around £47 million.
If Arsenal wrap up this deal before the season end, it will a huge sign of intent for fans to get behind. After all, it has been a season to forget for the Gunners faithful as they struggle to get out of 9th place.
