With Thomas Partey at the AFCON and Granit Xhaka on the sidelines, Mikel Arteta is desperate for a midfielder this summer.
According to Goal’s Charles Watts, Arsenal is very interested in the Belgian midfielder and has already spoken with his agent. Discussions have taken place at London Colney in recent weeks to investigate the possibilities of a surprise move for the star player of a Premier League opponent, but any deal appears sure to be reignited in the summer.
Clubs around Europe are preparing to pounce on the 24-year-old at the end of the season, with Leicester understandably unwilling to sell the player in the middle of a campaign in which they are competing for the top six slots and the Europa Conference League trophy.
The Belgium international’s contract at the King Power Stadium expires in 18 months. He is unlikely to sign a new contract, and Leicester may be tempted to cash in now.
Brendan Rodgers, on the other hand, would love to keep Tielemans at least until the conclusion of the season. If they are unable to persuade Tielemans to sign an extension before the end of the season, he is expected to be sold.
Tielemans’ signature will be sought after by a number of clubs, but Arsenal is optimistic of luring him to the Emirates.
