Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Dan-Axel Zagadou.
Mikel Arteta’s rebuilding project still has quite a few steps to go including making wholesale changes to the squad.
Right now, the Gunners have a strong base of Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey but they need further additions. Zagadou is a young and developing centre-back with a starting role in Borussia Dortmund.
Since leaving PSG at 17, the Frenchman has really stepped up over the past few years. He is left-footed, athletic and can play either in a traditional back four or in a three. Arsenal considers him to be the perfect partner for Gabriel Magalhaes or perhaps even a backup.
The dynamic between this centre-back pairing might not be ideal in the long run. Gabriel has established himself as a starting figure at the Emirates. He is aggressive with his challenges, reads the game well and can pass out from the back. Zagadou has similar traits but might not be a great fit on the right side of the defence.
Plus, Arsenal have William Saliba returning from his loan spell to OGC Nice. He is right-footed and has shown his abilities in Ligue 1. The likes of Pablo Mari, Rob Holding and Calum Chambers are all backup options available to Arteta.
