Mikel Arteta’s number one target for the January window was Hungary’s rising young star in the Red Bull Salzburg ranks.
His release clause was attractively low at €25 million and he was seen as the answer to Arsenal’s creativity issues. Unfortunately, Szoboszlai decided on joining RB Leipzig, a route many footballers take due to the close connection of two clubs.
Bayern Munich and Real Madrid were also chasing after the 20-year-old who had stunned opposition defenders with his lethal strikes in the recent months. A player who can bring the same level of versatility in midfield but with a different style is Emi Buendia.
The Argentine put his front foot forward to really impress in Norwich’s Premier League season. He featured from the wings mostly but is a more capable attacking midfielder. He can carry the ball forward, has plenty of skill under his belt and work in and out of tight spaces. That is something Arsenal lack at the moment with nobody to fill that role.
Of course, Lyon’s Houssem Auoar is also on Arsenal’s transfer shortlist. After a failed summer attempt, the Gunners are tipped to make a second offer next month.
